Where's the love for the third game? King's Field is much more fun when it's not a cramped corridor simulator.

PS1 with S-video on a standard-definition LCD TV. CRT with composite is too blurry.

Pitched King's Field III. Given the game's openness and cryptic nature, it might take him 60+ hours to complete it. The difficulty is also on par with Dark Souls.

I played King's Field III (the japanese version, KF2 in USA, I believe).
I remember liking it, mostly for the atmosphere alone, I didn't like the gameplay mechanics, I mean, it's a slow, slowwww dungeon crawler. But, the atmosphere alone makes this game, you want to explore this gloomy, fiendish place.
I always thought it was the kind of kusogame that nobody but me would enjoy, I wasn't aware of its cult status in Japan, and none of my friends knew about it, also never read about it in magazines, I'm sure it was features in some back in the day, but I don't remember it, or ads of it, to me it was just a random game I picked up at the game store that sold bootlegs for cheap.
Years pass by, Demon's Souls comes out and I learn that King's Field was actually a revered series. It was like a guilty pleasure that ended up not being guilty.

I tragically cannot say many good things about this game. I didn't feel like it was as tightly balanced as the second. But the fact that you can roll your own characters and multi-class them however you like was a nice feature.
