This is a PVM.
BVM stands for Broadcast Video Monitor, and it's an excellent quality CRT.
PVM stands for Professional Video Monitor.

Both are for viewing TV signals, and they also happen to have RGB inputs, which is rare on American TV's. Since the SNES and a lot of other old consoles output RGB and it's the highest quality you can get out of them, plus the overall awesome quality of the PVM's and BVM's themselves, they are highly sought after by gamers.

I got mine free because I was a volunteer at the local PBS station, and after a few visits I heard they were upgrading to new equipment. So I asked the station engineer if they had any CRT's they were getting rid of, and he offered me a PVM-20L5.

Some people claim the BVM's are superior to the PVM's - I'm not sure, because I don't have a BVM, but my opinion based on the specifications I've read in Sony's manuals is that the PVM and BVM are the same quality but BVM's have more expansion cards for extra inputs and outputs, and also have some more advanced controls.

Not had QUITE that much trouble with mountain country folk, actually. Then again, I was born there and lived there for a few years (southwest colorado, San Juan mountains, actually kind of close to IRL South Park), so I make decisions accordingly.
