one suggestion that would make both managers and most customers happy is smart suggestions.

don't try and sell everything to the customer just suggest obvious accessories to go with them.

someone buying a sega 32x? suggest a composite video cable (or better) and if they so no, drop the subject.

buying a core unit console and a multi-player game? suggest a second controller (especially if they are cheap)

someone interested in an obscure game console you happen to have in a display case? direct them over to the games you currently have in stock and their location might be hard to spot.

low value freebies are also good if manager allows it, for example one time i was buying over $100 in various games and while i was being helped i noticed there was a manual to comix zone in the case and asked how much it was, they said it would normally go with the matching game when sold but offered to just give it to me.

i found this in the fortune cookie i received earlier today, surprisingly fitting considering the nature of old games.
