absolutely nothing. i've built my own prototype cartridges to test games I've written on actual hardware. the cheap EEPROMs I got from China were even from the 90s from reclaimed hardware

unless you have a ROM that isn't out in the wild, the amount of time to produce a convincing fake would be cost-prohibitive. then again, there's a sucker born every minute, and even if this incredibly low-tech stuff, you could probably find some mouth-breathing hoarders to scam before disappearing.
