I sudenly had an urge to play jRPGs and decide to experience one of those classics I never played. The chosen one was the first Lunar game.

Now, don't get me wrong, I really like this kind of game. The estructure of the gameplay, the item and equipment management the turn based battles, the spritework, the storytelling, I really like all of this but I simply cannot understand how Lunar can be so highly rated. The game is bland, the characters are uninteresting and generic, the music is not remarkable at all save for the longcat song, the dialogue is simplistic and "humor" is plain annoying, that fucking flying cat is one of the most teethgrinding inducing characters I ever had the displeasure to know and the whole game emanates an aura of mediocrity. I've 12 hours or so of gameplay in it but I still do not understand the appeal of it. There are so many better jRPGs, even on the same timespan but for some reason this game is one of the most loved ones from the playstation era. My question is: Why?

I know, I didn't actually beat the game yet and I'm far from it but, is it even worthwhile to do it?

Also Jessica is best girl even with that retarded faggot being her bofriend.

Can someone cover lunar 1 and 2. It's been ported on a bunch of consoles. Which do you say is best?

I really don't want to be like those guys playing Dragon Quest a bit, misunderstanding everything, screaming generic and quitting one of the best JRPGs forever, but...

I've been playing Lunar, the PSP remake, and I have not yet started having fun at all. I've been in two dungeons, but I haven't seen a single boss battle. Not a single battle has challenged me, I never even controlled my party once, I've been autobattling for two hours straight, even though reviews call the remake just as "grindy" as the original.

As for story, I've been unable to enjoy it either, for the same reason I hated Grandia (which I gave a most decent try of 15+ hours before I quit):
>I want to be an ADVENTURER!
>Let's go on an ADVENTURE!!!
>ADVENTURE, here we go!!!11
>Yeah, what an ADVENTURE we're having!!!!!!11111!!1!
>Wow, this is an ADVENTURE, and we're ADVENTURERS on and ADVENTURE, ADVENTURING!!!!
This shit ruins all sense of adventure for me. I can't feel like I'm on an epic, sprawling adventure, because it feels more like I'm playing in the yard with some kids. Fuck this shit.

tl;dr I love Dragon Quest, hate Grandia, do I keep playing Lunar or is it not for me?

Also: should I refraid from playing the remake? I'm playing on PSP, but I can jsut as well play the PSOne remakes there. I don't seem to like the graphics either, old art that I've seen on Youtube is sort of more to my liking.
