Guy who made all those RE guide images here. Pic related is the most up to date version that I made.

I should probably make a version 1.2, the blurb about the N64 having higher quality instrument samples might be incorrect. Angel Studios had to redo all the midi samples during the port process, but I re-read the interview I had researched and they never actually mentioned making them higher quality. They also ended the audio section of the interview with:

>Finally, using their sound driver on the N64 allowed us to use Dolby Surround Sound to place sounds in true 3D space, making the in-game sound far superior to its PSX predecessor.

Maybe I wasn't thinking straight and assumed that meant the midi was also better.

The N64 version has actual analog controls. Pushing the analog stick a little bit makes you walk; all the way makes you run. Your character will move relative to the analog stick rather than their own position in the game world (it's basically the same as the new optional controls in REmake HD).

Ya it's kind of annoying that there isn't a truly 100% definitive version. The PC version is technically a little bit better, but I'd say stick with the Dreamcast for the best RE2 experience (much less screwing around).

I too would like to know more info about the surround sound.

I don't have a copy of RE2 for N64, but I've tried Perfect Dark's Dolby Surround and there was actually a decent level of directional audio. The N64's compression shouldn't ruin the surround sound as far as I know. It just means your back speakers will be fed some unique audio data instead of just completely rehashing the front stereo data. Ocarina of Time's surround sound didn't seem to work nearly as good as Perfect Dark's (Nintendo didn't actually use the Dolby Pro Logic license for that game though...).
