I keep hearing CRTfags explain the refresh rate and how it's standard for CRT monitors to be 100hz or over. We all know NTSC console games were 60fps, but what about PC games? I thought going over 60fps was a relatively new thing in games and thought

I fired up Sims 2 and 100hz noticeably looks smoother than 60hz, but is that the monitor and GPU doing all the work and not the game running at 100fps? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

because that is the sweet spot for movement quantization to enable movement exploits. That shit was around until COD 4 where people were bouncing off chest high walls to snipe people from out of bounds
they needed to disable all graphical features to reach that back in 1999
hell Quake 3 was one of the first id games advertised to run at 60fps on a moderate system at launch iirc. Doom was capped to 35 (half of the standard 70 of the time, making it the first FPS to limit framerate) and with Quake you were lucky to get over 20

How come Quake lost so much popularity? If someone wants to go with the difficulty excuse, Brood War is just as hard and it's still popular as fuck.
