Capcom really supported Sega with the Saturn and Dreamcast heavily. I think they were very glad to be free from contracts with Nintendo at the time and their direction aligned more closely to Sega's. In those days Square was a kingmaker with their games and made the killer apps and they don't seem to be interested in developing for Sega consoles. Namco was an early investor in Sony, specifically with the Playstation hardware, so they had a vested interest that they even had arcade boards based on the hardware they put money into. I'm not familiar with SoA, I don't have any games from them. The Saturn is still one of my most favorite consoles, top 5 of all time to me.

Yeah, it is the only title where the pack with the 4MB cart had a different cover than the one without a 4MB cartridge included. It did have too many similar characters on the Street Fighter side while the previous one didn't feel that way.

It is true. The one I went to had X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, ThunderForce V, Shinouken, and a racing game (I think ManxTT). Back then, all Saturn owners knew to import their games.

Yeah, it was the 4MB games that pretty much convinced a few more people at our gatherings to look into the Saturn back then. The appeal of Marvel comics was really high in those days.

These were everywhere around me. I think I did only once see a X-men Vs. Street Fighter in a blue cabinet that typically housed Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo or the D&D games, but that was in a movie theater's lobby. How much do these cabs go for these days?

I can't find the old footage, but they did purposely destroy a lot of Dreamcast systems because of MVC2. I remember they went on a hammering spree when it was announced MVC2 was to be released on the 360.

I don't really collect. Just happen to have kept a lot of the stuff I had back then. Got a lot on clearance shelves/bargain bins.

>>9156990
Yeah, I remember "HK silvers" were very popular and all over the place back then. We used to burn so many Dreamcast games for everyone. It was a huge network of people sharing every Dreamcast game. Good times.

I was mentioning the cabinet that OP displays is not how I remember the cabinets for MVC2 looked like. I'm trying to remember, but it doesn't even resemble Final Fight cabinets which were more "inset" for the screen and the controls at more of an angle. I remember 2 World Warrior cabinets, one with a large speaker grill underneath the screen and another with the controls flat/level with a wide base sort of like a Pit Fighter cabinet. I think OP's cabinet is supposed to be for Mortal Kombat and not MVC2.

It is one of my most favorite video game consoles. It was a hit at our bi-weekly meetings for so many interesting and weird games, but so many hits too. It was home to a lot of games which cater to my tastes, so it ended out to be the system I have the most physical games owned.

Back then, emulation was not as solid as it is now. This was all we had back then. I would love to have the original CPS2 arcade boards but they were always and probably will continue to be prohibitively expensive for me to afford them. I had the Saturn versions from the 90s and they were pretty good, but not arcade perfect. Only relatively recently in the 2010s got the Playstation versions because they were very cheap and found that they are interestingly unique.

They offer a traditional 1 on 1 with assists combat featuring pre-round movement. There is the arcade tag matches. They have exclusive survival, training, and gallery modes. Those home features makes a very well rounded package distinct from the arcade release designed for continual low priced revenue and makes the game worth the higher lump sum initial cost worth it featuring longevity. Think of Gauntlet Legends on N64 or Tekken Tag for PS2, the original Playstation releases have longer legs because of the added exclusive aspects.

I guess I fit that description. I do have the Saturn in my top 5 videogame consoles. I suppose in part, it was a system with lots of games that appealed to me. At that time, the games were always in bargain bins and really cheap because everyone had the other systems, so it was great for someone like me who does not have much money to get lots of games to enjoy without spending much. I still enjoy a lot of games on the first Playstation and N64, they still rank within my top 50 video game systems. I understand my taste in games is unconventional, and I am at peace that most others don't like the same games I do, doesn't change my opinion/tastes.

Thanks.

Greetings. Those are some of my most favorite CPS2 games. I am jealous, I wish I could afford to have the real arcade boards to play too but I have to settle for the ports as that's what I could get. I think there is a mod now to cure the suicide batteries on those too now, a "flashcart" for CPS2 as well! Looks like there's at least one more at the bottom there, which I cannot make out. Very cool.

>>6587865
Yes, exactly, it is still there for those who want to play that way. In addition to all the exclusive modes and features not found on other versions makes it more worthwhile to have. It may look bad, but once people get into playing it, they won't really notice and have fun.

The Sega games tend to try to close to the arcade experience, but that doesn't last as emulation is much closer to the arcade originals. What makes a home port stand out are features which take advantage of the hardware and makes considerations for a home consoles. Credits/continues replaced with added stages/zones/playstyle options or considerations on challenge would be welcome and make the home port a notable game to play. In the case of the Playstation versions, they have the tag feature of the arcade, but also unlike the arcade, it is a one-on-one fighter with rounds. The art galleries and additional modes make fore a better home port. Remember the Sega releases are not arcade accurate, for example the War Machine-Armored War Machine team gets way more chip damage in the arcade due to the slowdown, but the Dreamcast port runs without slowdown that not every missile is counted for damage, and instead of 50-200% damage, the higher speed means only 30-120% damage done when I have a full 3 levels.

No! That's why I have extra variations.

Interesting, I have found the FV characters (and Janet) better.
