Don't go in expecting Chrono Trigger. Phantasy Star 2 is light on story, even moreso than it's predecessor, and you will be rewarded with very small bits of dialog after hours of combat and exploration. Your party members have precious little to say after they join you.

It's a dungeon crawler first and foremost. If you want to grind, take notes, draw maps, and play something slow paced that requires patience, Phantasy Star still holds up. But most gamers these days aren't into that sort of thing. When they think of a JRPG, they think of something more like Phantasy Star IV. PSIV tells an engaging story, the dungeons aren't massive confusing mazes with few landmarks and are instead like typical JRPG dungeons, and it's difficulty is toned down to something more akin to the average JRPG.

Enjoying PS2 so far. I especially like that you have an attack for each hand.

However, I ran into a small snag. I got Rudo in my party and when to the Hair Metal Weapons store to get some new implements. I picked up a dagger for Rudo without knowing he was already fully loaded. I can't find it in inventory and I got charged for it. Is this a thing that can happen?
