Are Panasonic Tau models considered good?

I gave my old 32~36ish inch set to my parents after I moved out years ago.

Dad called me up this week saying it's fried.

Repair guy replaced the fuse, and said that didn't fix it and that the transformer (assuming flyback transformer) needs to be replaced.

Naturally these chucklefucks are trying to charge an arm and leg to fix it. It seems like I can probably get the part on eBay for $15-$30.

Is it worth trying to fix it myself, or is it a crap tv, or a lost cause? It served me well back when I used it before.

Don't know the exact model # but I know it's a Panasonic Tau, and it looks like this pic.
