Argie here.
Piracy was always rampant here, so most people grew up with clone systems (Family Game, Sega Genesis clones) and later on PC and chipped PS1.
However, Nintendo had official presence from the early 90s, the same Club Nintendo magazine that was edited in Chile (which was like an edited version of the original mexican) was also released here and it was actually a pretty cool magazine. A lot of people bought Club Nintendo because you'd find tips and cheats for games you could find on Family Game, and the magazine was a gateway for more Nintendo stuff. When the Super Nintendo came out, it was very popular, but not many kids had it since it and its games were more expensive than the clonic Genesis and bootleg Genesis carts from china, but still SNES was fairly popular and some SNES bootleg carts started appearing around, like at rental places.
Nintendo kept having a strong official presence throughout the 90s, the first TV show about video games here, only in cable, called "Power Games" was supported by Nintendo themselves, or so I believe, since the whole show was centered around SNES as you can see:

Later on, around 1993/1994, another TV show appeared, this time on air TV, on the national channel, called "Top Kids", this one was massive and garnered a cult following. This one was also sponsored by Nintendo

Top Kids also had a monthly magazine which came with Mortal Kombat action figures, this was at the peak of MK popularity. Despite Nintendo being the only sponsor, the magazine still talked about other systems, especially Mega Drive since it was very popular too. But all of the magazine ads were from Nintendo (it had lots of the "Play it loud" ads, which here were localized as "Dale Gas!")
After Top Kids, around 1997, came another TV show that became massive, Nivel X. Again, Nintendo was the main sponsor.

>I do, remember the contrarian named Crow?
Yeah, but I didn't knew them until 2002 or so, when I bought my first issue of the new version of CN, which was the actual mexican magazine.
In my old 90s issues, I have Axy and Spot, and before them there was Ryo and Max.
