That's every DQ game for me. And yet here I am.

85 hours later, I finally beat DQ7. It certainly had the best subplots and one of the best overall plots in the series. One of the things that made Final Fantasy 7 so impactful was the many new expressions character models could make with their bodies, compared to the sprites in the earlier titles. The 3DS remake of DQ7 made a similar achievement, and I somehow cared about the affairs of the characters you meet.

The gameplay itself got repetitive real quick, though, and I'm surprised I stuck with it. There are hundreds of skills and spells across like a dozen classes, but there was almost never an incentive to not steamroll everything with Knuckle Sandwich, one of the first melee skills you get, or whatever AOEs you have. At least they were nice enough to give advanced classes most of the abilities you learn from intermediate classes, because grinding even more to keep grinding would be hell.

Maribel is a bitch, though.
