DOSvania exists, Amigavania exists, C64vania exists.
For actual Castlevanias made by Konami themselves, I think the real worst one was Haunted Castle. At least it gave us some really good music, though.
BTW regarding Rondo vs DX, I think both are good games, and if you like one, you should like the other, since they only share the same gameplay and main character, but have completely different levels. DX is like playing a sort of sequel that reuses enemies (and it's not like CV doesn't reuses a lot of enemies throughout the series)

Dracula X is fine.
The castlevania that deserves shaming is Amigavania (and the other westenr-made ports for computers, like Commodore 64 and DOS).
The japanese-made Castlevanias are all quality games, even The Adventure in Game Boy isn't as bad as some people claim it is, and Belmont's Revenge is severely underrated by people who never played it but think it's the same as The Adventure.

Just avoid the PC ports of Castlevania 1, play the original NES game.
Simon's Quest is not really a bad game but it's an adventure game, it's not designed like CV1 or 3 or the rest.

Amiga Castlevania really was a shame. That intro looks decent, but then the game starts and everything goes to shit so quickly.

You're wrong OP. IV is one of the best, but it wouldn't exist without the original, which is still perfect.

I played SCV for the first time recently. Expected to not like it much but was neatly surprised.
Favorite stage was either the library or the clock tower.
