Did you ever play Romancia or Legacy of the Wizard?
For me it's Romancia > Faxanadu >>>>>>> Legacy of the Wizard

Everyone I know likes LotW the most, but I cannot stand it. There are many games that do what LotW does way better. I don't mind the backtracking in the other two games, but the backtracking in LotW is too much.

The Japanese version's also a lot different. Lower quality music (think 85-86 NES sound), the art has a '50s Astro Boyish look to it, but the world maps and dungeons are a hell of a lot more complex. Not in necessarily in a good way though. They did a hell of a job bringing it over here.

Faxanadu is amazing, hell one of the most atmospheric NES games I've played. I just wish it was a bit longer, for what it was. Legacy of the Wizard is cool too, but feels so different that most would never know the two are related.
