>buy a Genesis SCART cable
>no sync and only red, doesn't like to stay attached to the A/V port
>buy another one
>seller sends me a Saturn SCART cable instead
>look up C vs V cables and buy what I think is the correct one
>no sync and only red, so stiff to attach that half the pins probably don't make contact
Am I missing something? Is there a recommended Genesis SCART cable?

Love some Dreamcast, haven't played mine in a while though (well actually, it's being used for a society I run at uni every week, so other people play it) but it's a great system. Hoping I can get a friend to finish Skies of Arcadia on it this summer.

Yeah, I always found Blue Swirl to be better because it complimented the blue Sega logo. Plus nostalgia as turning on the Dreamcast always brings back good memories.

>Original DC from 1999 finally breaks down
>Really want a new one, but don't want to spend £40
>See one on Ebay, just a dude holding it in his hand saying "untested" for £20
>Buy it
>Arrives a few days later, didn't even knock on the door, left under the backdoor
>In a stupidly large battered box (a tv box), even had a small hole in it
>Dreamcast moving about inside, already considering how to get a refund.
>Plug it in and play works a charm
>Been using it for two years now.

Might buy those Chinese GDEmu's for the old one, so I could have two.

In terms of visual quality it goes RF -> Composite -> S-Video -> Component-> Scart -> VGA

Adam Koralik is pretty good in terms of comparison videos of stuff, even in this video he basically explains how each picture looks through each different cable. You can see Scart and VGA as well so this should give you a general idea of picture quality.,

Personally, if you're going to be using your Dreamcast a lot and ALL of your games are VGA compatible, then you might as well get one. However, if you're going to use your Dreamcast casually, and don't care too much then get a Scart lead. Factor in distance from the TV you'll be at as well.

Scart will also allow you to play all Dreamcast games whereas VGA isn't possible with some games such as Skies of Arcadia and Dynamite Cop.

Got a GDEMU a while back, was recently able to pick up a capture card with VGA in for recording Dreamcast gameplay at 640x480.

Gonna be recording my first playthrough of Shenmue and Shenmue II relatively soon. I grabbed .gdis of the European version of both games so I could carry my save over.

Kinda dumb that I've had a Dreamcast for so long but have never made a "serious" (as in, more than starting the game then spending half an hour playing Hang On at the arcade and then quitting) attempt at the system's most defining game.

Not Saturn, but related - My GDEMU came in about a week ago, and it has been awesome.

> Thank you based Deunan

I hit some hard economic times a couple of years ago and had to sell my modded Saturn (using one of those old Racketboy chips) and entire collection, which really, really sucked. I always figured it was going to be expensive as hell to track down another system and another modchip that was reliable, but luckily things will be much easier since ODEs are a thing now. I won't have to worry about soldering in a chip or burning tons of discs or putting wear and tear on a laser assembly for a console that is 20 years old.

Only downside to Saturn ODEs is that you are still limited to 2x data transfer speeds no matter how fast your SD card is simply because that's as fast as the system can pull data from the serial bus, it has been really nice having reduced (in some games significantly reduced) loading times on even a crummy class 4 MIcroSD card in an adapter on my Dreamcast.

I think a lot of people (especially on /vr/) confuse "best" console with their "first" console, so naturally they tend to favor the N64. They love videogames, so obviously they're going to have a massive amount of nostalgia for the hardware that introduced them to their favorite (and sometimes only) hobby.

Since /vr/ is visited by a large amount of "90s kids" it makes sense that the N64 would be more highly regarded here, compared to the rest of the internet that considers it a poor console that was only relevant because of it's tiny (yet still fairly impressive, at least for the time) first party library.

But, this isn't a thread about the N64, this is a thread about the Sega Dreamcast.

It's yet another "Why did the Dreamcast fail???" threads, which seem to pop up whenever someone bumps into a Dreamcast for the first time and can't fathom why such a high quality system could have tanked commercially. It sounds weird to younger people when they're told that a massive game console company could just run out of money. They have no concept of the amount of hype that Sony was generating with the PS2.

I guess you had to be there.
