Well, White and Black are already brothers, plus the concept of the Bomberman Bros. (with White sans Black) originated in one of the earlier arcade games (and I swear this can't be a coincidence since that seems way too specific a name with female members), so it wasn't much of a stretch to say the other playable colors are part of the same group.

I know the programmer describes it as a crash-conversion but it's really a such different game that I'd hesitate to call it a port and DEFINITELY not a "reskin". The wikis and Bomberboards have decent coverage, it's a lot rougher around the edges overall and even has things that didn't get recreated like "half-blasts" and the Ballom AI.
