Probably he most famous game in the thread by a long shot (though I've never heard it discussed on /vr/ )but I've been playing Hellnight again recently and have fucking enjoyed it. I haven't played a game in years that has gotten my blood pumping like this. The mechanics are really simple, but I think they pulled them off really well. There's really something fun about using yourself as bait so the monster will move out of the way between you and where you need to go, lose him, and then go back now that he's moved. Also, from what I heard the game actually branches a bit depending on which companion (they act as a one time shield, dieing in your stead if the monster catches you, and they have their own abilities/guns) you have apparently changes where you have to go and branches the game a good bit in addition to giving you multiple endings. So, I'm already excited at the prospect of replaying the game.

Granted, I think most of /vr/ would like hate it with eternal passion because it's first person a non-combat horror game where you're supposed to run away from a central monster. Guns exist but only stun the monster. Probably seems too modern despite being from 1998.
