I've been trying to get Win7 going, but one of my stumbling blocks is trying to inject a NVMe and Intel Optane drivers in. It is hard to find them for the old OS now. Have any links?

Of my time machines, my Win7 one is closest to completion. I don't intend for it to be online, but I remember there were some mitigations against some hyperthreading like Spectre/Meltdown which reduced performance and disabled hyperthreading. Since the time machine is not ever going to be connected to the internet, what patches should be avoided to keep away from those mitigations for improved performance?

I have a 98 and XP in the works, but the 7 is closest to transporting me back. Once I can secure the space to operate it I am looking forward to playing the remainder of the Monkey Island games. I don't intend on doing any browsing with the time machines, since I'm leeching wi-fi from my neighbor.

I got scared off of going to 10 because of all its phone home features. I would like to avoid using too much data from my neighbor's wifi. I'm hopping distros to find one I am happy with, but Linux is for the rich that can afford modern Intel+nVidia opposed to the poverty AMD that is the only affordable options. So the last I am attempting to make is a Win7 build.

Saved the video. Should help me try to figure out how to get 7 onto the nVME drive aligned. Thanks!

It is a nice motherboard, with good documentation. It looks like it has 2 more slots for IDE connectors but mine doesn't have them attached. One weakness is the chipset for it does not allow anything past 512MB of RAM, which is okay for Win98. The primary reason I am considering the motherboard on the left is the ISA slot which the ASUS lacks for some classic sound cards.

Very nice! That should be great for Y2k. Is there a reason for a 2GTS over a 4MX? The closest to completion is my retro Win7U build which requires a bit of research for the OS, but once I figure it out it should be a good 720p machine of the era.

Yeah, I miss having a 5.25 drive opening. In putting together my retro Win7 machine, cases these days don't even have the bays to support disc drives. Front IO seems to be devalued for some reason to support RGB lighting, which I do not find more useful than ports, drives, or even card readers.
