Gravis use to be well known for their PC sound cards. They were heavily marketed to the PC gamer crowd, and music production. It was really common to see 'game ports' (DA-15 connectors) on the back of the more popular sound cards. So Gravis would also make joysticks. Gravis made the original 4 button PC gamepad specifically for Commander Keen. Commander Keen popularized 2D platformers on the PC in 1990. It was one of the first gamepad (non joystick) controllers for the PC-DOS platform. That disc d-pad was really questionable. It breaks easily and one of the directions will never register properly me. I also owned some Gravis GamePad pro's. These used the patented PlayStation design, but are made out of a cheap hard plastic. Have somewhat mushy buttons and that same awful d-pad. But I still used this controller to play a lot of emulated SNES games.
