I thought something along the lines of this. Quad XOR gates are cheap. Then use Powerstrip or something to set the resolution to exactly what the Monitor expects.

You're right, it'll still probably be a shitty fixed resolution display and isn't really worth the effort. But I got it for free and my autism simply won't allow me to leave it alone until it displays some sort of picture.

your post gave me an idea though
DVI (or VGA) to 5 BNC is the best thing for the RGB converter
you can just cut off the BNCs, and wire them directly into the converter, which automatically does csync for the tv
