mechanics and aesthetics wise
switchable ammo types, firemodes, and upgrades are sorta mandatory to make it work in standard doom gameplay format, as far as i can figure out

Honestly this meme has a point. Doom used to be unpopular over there because they all got motion sickness. Since then they've adjusted and enjoyed the last game somewhat. My guess is the fate of his inclusion is down to Bethesda. They may have been given a deal to pay a fee and/or but X amount of new games on the new nintendo system. I've heard people say that Bethesda publicly mentioning that they were talking to Nintendo about it could have broke an NDA or something. I'd be surprised if smash really gets doomgy. I hope we get it for a new influx of fanart
