People always say "The NES was dead by the time it came out" or "JRPGs weren't popular at the time", but I think it would have been more popular in the US because of its non-fantasy setting

Had it been released in the US in 1989 or 1990, do you think that it would have reached high popularity levels? I'm aware that RPGs weren't popular in the US at the time, but given its Americana setting/Charles Schulz art style it would have probably been more digestible for western audiences than FF.

I'm completely entry level with retro games but I just finished Mother and absolutely loved it. Are other retro RPGs like this? Should I try Dragon's Quest or Final Fantasy from here?

Should I play this before Earthbound?

Let's list some good RPGs on retro consoles.
I'll start off with one of my favorites.
