/vr/ - Retro Games

1. playing Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle for Coleco vision. Pretty sure it was the first video game I ever played, must have been 3 or 4 at the time. Blew my mind to be able to "control the cartoon inside the TV". Also Coleco Vision in general: Donkey Kong, DK Jr, Pac-Man, LadyBug, Galaxian. It was truly magical.
2. Getting my first actual console that belonged to me: a generic "Family Game" Famiclone with a 32 in 1 cart. All dem classic early Famicom games. But the game that blew my mind was when I got Super Mario Bros. 3, spent hours upon hours playing it with my friends and my dad.
3. Playing OutRun on the arcades, nothing is cooler than that, even today.
4. Seeing a SNES with SMW for the first time at a neighbor's house, and finally getting my own some time later. I remember my neighbor showed me Bowser's Valley (through Donut Secret's underground passage) and I couldn't believe how the music sounded, it was like a real heavy metal band was playing on the SNES as far as I was concerned.
5. Getting a Genesis with Sonic 1 and Thunder Force III. Seeing Green Hill Zone that fateful saturday night for the first time is something I'll always remember, as well as getting my first game over on the boss fight of Spring Yard.
6. Playing Super Mario 64 for the first time. All the hype that predated it didn't even come close to how actually impressive this game was.
7. Playing Nights on the Saturn for the first time. Something completely unique, colorful and magical.
I think those are my strongest vidya-related memories.

This was cool too, although we didn't battle much, I still remember when I finally was able to get all the starters and the trade-only evolutions, the eevees, etc. Good times.
