is why I'm sticking to original hardware and emulation via PC;etc. If the choice is to buy original hardware or use software to emulate, I'll just do those instead of buying more hardware to just software emulate a teeny bit better.

Get the updated version. It feels great and has some of the best buttons with the best feel and clicking action to ever grace video games. It even has built-in software that allows you to override Retroarch and actually pause and temporarily dip in and out of the game.
