Just get used to the most optimal line with the Porsche. I eventually got first with automatic when I retried enough times. You are most likely losing time on turns or maybe some of the turns don't need drifting at all.

I played SCUD and Daytona 2 Power Edition back to back for the first time maybe a year ago. SCUD was relatively more loose compared to Daytona 2, the latter was way more fun. I must've replayed the intermediate track and the kitchen oval for like 2 hours straight.
