>The 5000 series.
I would agree. This is the best of quite a few revisions and features.

I have a few models of PSX. I gave my 5501 to my brother, and held onto a 7501, a 1001 with the pu7 board and a 1001 with the pu8 board. The pu7 needed a laser assembly replacement 2 years ago, and my pu8 board is still going strong with no replacements, and no fmv skipping. It plays cd-r media.
I have had it since new. I like the direct AV/out, but use the s-video cables through the multi-out. I have a guncon and time crisis is one of the main games I play, so it is a bit of a cost savings to not have to buy the AV breakout box. All PSX systems are dirt cheap which is a good thing. Having a i/o port for a game shark is what I would consider an essential feature.

However, the PSone is much smaller, and is still a quality unit. Avoid anything with a pu7 board. It is not a meme that they look terrible in comparison to later revisions.

>PSIO is just fine thanks.

PSX systems are cheap. Replacement laser assemblies are too. I have a few systems I collected over the years. I still have the first unit I picked up from the middle of the 90s. I have had no issue whatsoever with the generic staples brand CD-r 700mb discs. I also found a game shark and flashed it to uniROM. I found that the PSIO was too expensive and required too much handiwork to really be an effective solution for my lifestyle. Last year I picked up another 50 pack of Cd-r, and I may have burned off 35 of them, and I know that I had 3 that for whatever reason did not work well, but I can't say that it wasn't t he image I was using either. I have never owned a PS2, and I don't know if I ever will. I still have a PSX backlog that I may never get through.

I was just referencing back at this image, and I don't doubt that there are fellow PSX-Bros all over the world. I think that the "Psx or PlayStation" debate is a lot like "inverted or not" control schemes. It just is, and some people simply cannot accept that other people did not do as they did, and will not do as they say. I will continue to call it a "PSX" as I have since the mid 90s. I got to see a lot of things come and go. I never gave 2 flying fucks who called it what. You could have called it the "grey cd player thing-a-majig" and everyone would know what you were talking about. I still have a few PSX systems at my house. 1 is hooked up, one got loaned to my brother and the other 2 are still in boxes.
>Yfw my brother calls it a PSX also.

>then buy an odroid
I had to look into this, and I would be more then happy to pass on that as well. I am not sure your angle or if you read my post, but I have no need nor desire for any mini-pc-emulator-box. I already have plenty of native hardware...not just for PSX...I am ONLY a retro gamer in a sense. The most recent PC game I bought was Dark Souls (Not the remaster). I am not part of any target audience anymore & they know they have to squeeze me pretty hard to get a few shekels.

That is not to say that I wouldn't get one of these.....I just would have no idea how to hook it up to my TV, and I know I am not paying extra for scanline converters etc. IF the hacking of this system is possible and works well, I may consider. I was complaining the other day that I could get one more system under my tv is the PSX or N64 were just slightly smaller.....It is going to take a lot to draw me away from Original hardware that plays backup discs.....again I realize I am not the norm.

>I've sometimes thought about filling in those old game registration cards & sending them in just for yuks.
I have a complete PSX in the box still, and thought about sending in the registration card the other month while I had it out....I think somewhere someone would get a kick out of it.

>I think somebody's gonna start making CRTs again
They still do make them. They are pricy, but if they are using new tech to make the old things, I would wager they produce a very nice picture. I think the push to get away from CRT has as much to do with the size as it does with electric use. Imagine if we continued the HD CRT trend. Every house would have a CRT that uses lots of power. Our power grids are already antique....The amount of power saved by converting to LCDs makes a huge impact on the power overall.

I cannot find the company name that still makes CRTs, but they are modular, they stack and have many inputs. They are for museum displays. The issue again is cost. You wippersnappers and your goofy framemeisters and other upscalers would still be cheaper then a quality CRT.

I guess it has lots to do with how much extra cash you have, and how far you will go to produce perfect scan lines.

CRT tvs are a dime a dozen. Finding a few used ones and keeping them in a dry safe place could mean a lifetime of enjoyment. I have ONLY ever had one CRT die, and it was after more then 2 straight decades of being on. I have had 3 lcds die on me in the last 10 years.

Back in the day I had a pair of mice. We would serial play command and conquer. It was good times. I think I had dune 2000 also that the mouse worked with.

My wife did have one for the snes with the mousepad etc..fully complete. Worked great with mario paint. It was fun swatting the skeeters.

pic somewhat related, and not to be a jerk at all. I just happened to be sitting here and could snap a quick pic.
