/vr/ - Retro Games

Hi no Tori/Firebird is my favorite.

Omega Factor is so incredibly good. One of my favorite games of all time, I must say.
But retro-wise, my favorite Tezuka-related game is Hi no tori on MSX2. Unique kind of vertical shooter that mixes some platforming too.

Do you think Hi no Tori/Firebird for MSX2 may have been an influence for Sin and Punishment?
Same platforming/shooting hybrid.
Any other games like this? Like, S&P is not just cabal-style, it actually has many levels where you keep advancing and have to react to platforming challenges on top of the shooting.

No, it's the same game, Hi no Tori literally translates to Firebird, which is how the game is known with western MSX users, not sure if the game was actually officially released outside Japan, I think it was, at least in Europe.
If I'm not mistaken, the version I played was a fan translation of the japanese original. It has a few lines of text here and there, that give you hints about how to progress in certain places.
It seems like a tough and disorienting game at first, but once you know your way it becomes pretty fun, I replayed it a big amount of times.
