When I was a kid we were introduced to gta 1 via a demo disc from a pc gaming magazine. My friend got it first, once we discovered how awesome the game was we all borrowed and installed it. The demo had a time limit, after a certain amount of time you'd have to restart the level.

We used to compete with each other for score within the time limit like an arcade game. I had the highest score for the longest time, then I went on holiday and by the time I came back my friend had gotten something ridiculous because he had found a route to get all the kill frenzies. By then we had gotten a hold of the full game and the score competing gta 1 demo days were over. Good times desu.

Your turn.

Oh, since 6th gen is legal now, a friend of mine and I would do something similar in uni for gta vice city on pc. We'd get stoned and go on killing sprees with our own music playing. While it obviously wasn't as quantifiable who the "winner" was (no score system, it was just pure creative massacring freedom whilst also dealing cops/feds/army) it was some of the most fun I ever got out of video games. I guess killing sprees in gta are hardly all that unconventional but eh, we played that shit a lot when high. Go ahead and say the dude weed meme I can't wait.

how the hell was this so successful in the day?
>ugly 2D graphics in the day where 3D was all what people wanted
>media frenzy overshadowed by Carmageddon who was released a few months earlier
I mean I'm not saying it's a bad game but I don't understand its immediate success given the circumstances
