I don't think smoking weed would be very helpful in a game this stressful. It's a puzzle solving adventure game, I would say it's made for people who like that kind of thing.

The very first time I plugged it in and turned it on. Some amazing games on that system, but hard to look at.

As one of the handful of regular posters around here actually old enough to fall under the grandpa category of being pre-millenial I'd like to reiterate that I think modern gaming is awesome. And that although games like Call of Duty, Minecraft, DotA and undertale don't interest me personally at all, I'm still happy they exist for the people who love them.

I'll even go so far as to say I'm happy people are enjoying the new Tomb Raider even if it has almost nothing to do with the franchise as I loved it. I'm a little sad that it's not a Tomb Raider made just for me, but that's fine because it just gives me more incentive to go out and try more new things.

Games were pretty fucking great in my day, but they're even better in this day.

Technically, Crash is considered a 2.5D platformer. You can move left and right a little, but for the most part you're stuck on a very narrow path.

Tomb Raider, Mario 64 and Jumping Flash are examples of actual 3D platformers.

>No you just don’t like games or have some hate for the 5th generation.

Now you're putting words in my mouth. I have no hate for 5th gen at all. It has tons and tons of games I love.

I would have been a complete idiot to discount the entire PS1 library of games because I didn't like some of it's "defining games".

>The minute, and I mean the literal INSTANT 2D is perfected with the advent of 32 bit consoles capable of millions of colors and every 2D effect conceivable, 2D gaming is all but abandoned in order to chase after 3D

I think that was a lot more about gameplay than graphics. 70's, 80's and 90's games were by and large 2D and though 2D games are great they're also intrinsically limited.

I think by the time consoles could handle real 3D games, developers were looking to try new kinds of games. If only to make something different to stand out from the piles and piles of platformers and arcade action games that had dominated them in the past. Also it's a heck of a lot easier to make a game using polygons and textures than the kind of high quality sprites people were coming to expect.

We did and still do get 2D games, they're just less common.
