Anon, they had a fresh start with Arcanum, designed an expanded system and somehow fucked EVERYTHING up.

First aid was pretty shit in Fallout, so lets make it you need bandages in order to heal, and have it recover next to no HP, AND have the bandages get consumed upon use. Why would you ever use this, when a level 1 healing spell or the simplest healing salve recipie that produces 5 units per crafting, heals instantly and requires two common components that cost next to nothing? Uhhh...

On the other end of the spectrum, backstabbing does insane damage if you hit someone from the back since it scales off your skill, but the weapon doesnt actually matter at all. So what is the perk you get when you reach absolute max mastery of backstabbing? Swords, axes and hammers will trigger backstab. Those who cost more AP to swing due to lower speed than daggers, and will do the exact same damage per attack. Therefore mastery is pointless
Furthermore entire schools of magic are utterly worthless because they either do too little, or they do something that is fucking pointless like counter enemy spells -- more on this later. Tech schematics have a different issue where half of them are good and half of them are utterly horrid. You wont know which is which for most of them until you actually make them and try em out, and this involves the wonderful act of walking away from a shopkeepers LOS, waiting a day, walking back in and seeing if he has restocked that one very specific thing you need to craft something in his tiny inventory.
Speaking of the inventory, they decided to make you be burdened both by carrying space and limited inventory slots, so its the dreaded inventory tetris PLUS carry weight juggling. If you dont use companions as mules you are fucked
Cont.

Do you have any particularly fond Doom memories?

I have two.
First is playing through Plutonia, Hell revealed 1 and 2 while listening to a huge playlist of Metallica and other heavy metal music for the first time, you could really see where the art direction was coming from.

Second would have been playing Unloved late at night and it was raining constantly for a few nights. Sucks Unloved II was never finished.

>more shit to cycle through
>more weapons to attempt to balance and keep relevant
>more fucking ammo to worry about
>inevitably one weapon will raise above the rest, making the others useless

sometimes less is more, anon.

Jesus Christ,

Me and a friend have been trying to play doom together in a multiplayer on actually old hardware (98 -95 machines) but haven't been able to find a client lightweight enough to do so

What do you recommend /vr/?
