Remakes are never good, just make a different game if you want to alter stuff significantly. A lot of remasters are perfectly fine. Serious Sam HD comes to mind.

Serious Sam HD because I simply missed out on the originals entirely and I doubt they'd be the better experience now after playing the HD versions first.
