Odd thing happened (well maybe not so odd to those of you who've been repairing PCs for years).

So, I'm trying to "supercharge" this old shitty Dell I have (2.8 Ghz P4, I know not strictly vintage, but lol /g/) for shits and giggles. Picked up a NIB Radeon x1300 PCI version for 15.00. Popped it in, hooked up through DVI, no picture. Okay, so I'll try the VGA port on the card. Moments later, the ribbon cable that connects the VGA port to the card starts smoking. Shut down immediately.

Card still fires up, but not sure if it's still good, since I didn't get picture in the first place. Anyhow, I'm just curious what would cause something like that?
