/vr/ - Retro Games

Just got an NES (regular, 001, frontloader), but it gives me a purple screen. I am 100% sure that it isn't a problem with the games. The purple screen nor power light are blinking, its just a plain purple screen. Whats happening?

Well I've been totally ripped off.

Bought an NTSC NES off of ebay from a seemingly reputable seller, came today. He sent it with 15 games, stated that they were tested and guaranteed to work etc.

First thing I noticed is a cartridge stuck in the loading tray, new 72 pin connector apparently can make it tight, was a long time trying to ease it out.

Managed to get a few games working, then you'd take them out, try again and the red light would flash or on the odd ocassion the game would start but would look glitchy.

I am gutted to say the least, cost me a lot to get it imported over here too.

Has anyone got any ideas? I've googled it but nothing much seems to be on there.

So I just bought an NTSC NES from the US (UK here so waiting for it to come will be painful), I've got the power sorted but have a query:

Is a Sony Trinitron 14'' suitable? Which cables do I use when hooking it up for the AV? Can anyone recommend the way to get the best picture etc?

Also, any must have games?
