I'm pretty sure you're wrong about this. Most of the CRTs I had way back in the day could perform at over 120hz as long as the resolution was lowered. My throwaway Viewsonic could run 640x480 at 120hz, which was convenient for CS.
The most popular one back then was Samsung's 997DF, which could do 800x600 at over 140hz, and 640x480 at 160.
I can't imagine anyone "retro" gaming at above those resolutions.

Is there a considerable difference, in retro gaming terms, that high refresh rate LCDs provide that old school CRTs didn't?
