Even along retro shooters, Sam is probably the least appropriate franchise to try to make sense of. Anyway, you might wanna check out Bogus Detour. It features literal Egyptian (and other cultures) human NPCs. Game itself is the best indie SS title IMO.

Recently I completed Black Mesa, in which scientists have been constantly teleporting supplies to you during Xen chapter. I thought similar idea could be applied to Serious Sam i.e. your allies constantly throwing miniguns back in time. But then I remembered Earth getting mooned in BFE...so yeah, this doesn't work.
