Rick Lund continuously ran the same scam for over fifteen years. He repeatedly went bankrupt and then started new companies doing the same contest with the same puzzles. Pandemonium, Puzzle Me, Rattlebrain, Baindramage. As far as I can tell he made millions of dollars and never gave a grand prize to anyone.

They've been running those ads for years, here's the most recent one I could find (they didn't even bother changing the puzzle). Anyway, the way they work is you send them your entry fee and they send you a series of puzzles that are about the same difficulty as the one in the ad, and then a final "tie breaker" puzzle that's almost impossible (much larger and you have to provide the words yourself).
