Yeah it's potentially worth it. Vertical or horizontal collapse is a relatively trivial issue usually. Vertical's better than horizontal because there's no HOT to worry about (horizontal output transistor).
I had a PVM-1944Q from the same year; it was a good set. This one looks to do 480p as well though.
