I own the super everdrive v2 and the everdrive 64 and im very happy with both, despite small problems.

I recently ordered the ed64 from retrotowers and i can recomend it, very nice packaging and customer support.

About the super everdrive v2:

I could stop noticing that the image frame for me is neither full or centered while on 16:9, it can be my tv or my scart splitter. This said, i have no problems while on 4:3.

It runs all the games its supposed to, and me, in a pal console, use snestool.exe (via dos) to patch ntsc and jpal roms, including patched roms. So far, everything runs very well, and loading times depend on rom size, but never beyond 20 seconds.

In this one any folder will show only up to 1024 files, which forced me to organize into folders, nothing too bad to deal with.

About the everdrive 64:

It runs every game loads fast and flawlessly, pal roms this is. Ntsc and jpal roms have faulty image as they should, but i havent tried to patch roms yet. Ips patched roms run just fine and being able to ips patch in-game is a very nice touch. The menu is very good but the image shakes a little for some reason. Being able to switch the background is pretty cool.

The ed64 has a built in nes emulator but its not viable at all. Not many roms work and those who do have crappy image quality. And again, only pal nes roms will work for me.

As for n64 roms the image presents no problem, either at 16:9 or 4:3.

In order to save you must remember to reset before turning off.

For both, ive used multiple micro sd cards up to 32gb with multiple classes and i really cant say the rom loading speed change noticeably. Something to be aware of is that the micro sd to sd adapter should be pristine, or it is very likelly it will fail loading 8/10 times. So get a good adaptor.

Sorry for the wall of text hope it is good information for those interested, as i find it is a great solution for consoles you have no interest in collecting

I know this is kinda off topic but since it is adventure island...

Ai2 is my favourite game ever and since its has been forgotten over time (except for horrible game cube and wiiware versions), ive been developing on my free time a fangame. Im using ai2/3 graphics and sound, but the twist is that istead of having fixed islands and levels, each island and each level is generated (cave levels still are cave levels, ocean levels still are ocran levels and so on). The idea is too give the ai gameplay as true as the nes games, but "infinite" levels. Imagine ai meets bindinh of issac.

Anyhow, i can handle the development, but its the licensing that has been bothering me. Ai currently belongs to konami since they bought hudson (with all their ips). I think my project would be great as a mobile game for example but i doubt konami would show interest on that, and buying an ip is way out of my range, so

Any advice on that part?

Any suggestions for console games that feature fun battles with a lot of units envolved?

Some games i can remember:

Dragon force (saturn)
Advanced wars (gba)
Conflict zone (dreamcast)

Not really retro but im looking for something with the feel of mount & blade
