The Umihara Kawase games are genuinely amazing, if you haven't played them you should.

Incredible physics based platformers involving using an absurdly stretchy fishing rod to launch yourself around levels that have multiple exits into different stages.

The level of quality and detail blew my mind. There are so many things to discover, hidden mechanics, and enemy behavior. Nailing star jumping, riding enemies, finding all the secrets, the amazing art and soundtrack is just getting started. It recycles nothing, and each new step of the game has details to awe about. I never expected a game on the NES could be so intricate. It's a short game but there's something new to discover each playthrough.
