The coherently broad answer would be that, because Id were working with such a cutting edge engine, they had solid reason to make lots of other aspects of the game greatly refined.

Compare that to what 3d realms did after duke3d, using an old engine that they didn't quite own, and then licensing an common engine, and at the same time having the weird portal based engine not quite working out, and they just spectacularly failed to get their shit together.

It was released in 1993, so Doom is 28 years old. I'm feeling fucking old

What are some recommended settings for a Sony Trinitron kv-20fs12? I would buy a PVM or something but I don't have the money for it right now sadly. Every time I go in the menu and tweak the settings I feel like I'm just dicking it up even more. I use it for watching VHS and playing games (mostly 16 bit) and it'll either look decent on the games and horrible on VHS, or horrible on both.

You have to remind this demo reached the hands of Miyamoto himself who played it and was absolutely astonished. Management canning this to maintain exclusivity seems like the only possible explanation.

Pic related is Carmack and Romero actually applying the final touches.

Don't forget Mario Bros. Those were just quieter times I think.
