I vividly remember printing out a Mario RPG FAQ back in the day, and being absolutely perplexed by what the author meant by the mysterious ":)" that appeared only once in the entire file. It took my child brain years to understand that it was, in fact, just a sideways smiley face. Yes, believe it or not zoomies, there was a time when "emojis" were a new thing that only the coolest people on the internet understood.
