Actually that was almost 4gb of uncompressed video frames , yeah you can actually rip de videos from the ps1 discs and extract all the frames you will get a DVD size only for videos, PS1 has a MDEC chip to uncompress in real time the video files, there is a shit ton of macro blocks in RE2 fmvs , so the real compression ratio was 165:1 , they had to cram 4gb of frames in 25mb of cart space because the N64 does not have any hardware to decode video, all was done with clever interpolation technology and brute force compression algorithm

There's practically no reason to play the original playstation version. N64 has a couple of exclusive traits, on top of no loading times.

Huh?
N64 version is by no means the best one (although it is the only one with Dolby sound, as well as having a couple exclusive stuff), but between PS1 and N64, yeah I'd go with N64.
No reason to play the PS original anymore.

Strangely enough, the only version of RE2 with dolby surround is the N64 one.

Siphon Filter? Which one?

Yes but I have nostalgia for the era and dig the graphic style (limitations).

Actually has a few nice exclusive content and traits. Not superior to the Dramcast or later versions, but better than the original PS for sure. Also no loading times is always a plus.

>after getting a taste of the RE2 N64 port.
You could have used another example, RE2 on N64 than on PS. Of course the better versions are on 6th gen systems or PC, but the N64 version still has some unique traits to it, better poly models. The sound is even great, it being the only version of the game with dolby surround sound.
The PS version is vanilla as fuck, it's the original but there's almost no reason to play it over any of the later versions.

Nice meme, /v/, but yeah, sorry, your PS1 version is the most barebones one. Every other version is better. And N64 version has some unique feats.

It has a couple exclusive stuff including exclusive alternative clothes for the characters.
Anyway yeah the PC version is better, but people here seem to be really eager to compare N64 vs PS1 for some reason (who am I kidding? it's because of conshul wors)

I played it, I can say it's really good but also I think it was handled by developer Factor 5 who were "n64 wizards" and could pull off a lot of tricky stuff on it.
The director of RE2, Hideki Kamiya, approved on this port, he's usually harsh on ports that he considers inferiors to his original work, so this one has like his "blessing".

Not really, DC/GC/PC versions exist, but it's better than the PS1 version, yeah.

>better sound

Not really, N64 has actually better sound.

The PS1 version is really the worst version of RE2.

If we're gonna limit ourselves to PS1 and N64, then N64 it is.
But there's better versions of RE2 like DC, Gamecube or the later PC port.

unique modes, surround sound, among other things.

The best versions are probably on PC/DC/GC, but /vr/-related I think N64 is the one to go, unless you care about FMV quality, but they're not really bad on N64, just more compressed.

Also, no loading times.

DC for graphics, N64 for unique features and dolby surround sound

RE2 is much better overall on the N64 than on the PS1.

I'll take the Dreamcast or GC version over the N64 though, but PS1 is the worst one.
N64's version even has better audio (in fact, strange as it sounds, N64 RE2 is the only version out of them all with dolby surround sound). So no, the audio wasn't compressed, I know you like to parrot stuff like "N64 has shit audio!" all the time, but in this one case, you are dead wrong.

How about you stop being a console war faggot underage from /v/ and actually check out the facts?

RE2 on N64 is actually a great port, and to this day the only version with dolby surround (yes, RE2 on N64 has better sound than on PS1, DC or even PC, despite it being a cartidge).

Hideki Kamiya himself said he likes the port (and he's usually harsh with ports of his games that he didn't made)

RE2 port is actually worth playing, it actually does have an advantadge over other versions, for example it's the only one with dolby surround (yeah, somehow they managed to make a N64 cartidge sound better than CD/DVD versions).
It's honestly one of the best ports Capcom ever did, considering they are usually lazy with ports. But I think the fact Factor 5 helped with the porting may be a reason behind this. These germans were N64 tech wizards.
