I'm always happy to give out this information since to me it really is a key part of Yu-Gi-Oh! history, one that most fans don't know about, and those that do often don't know about its translation allowing them to finally play it... as full of flaws as Duel Monsters 1 is, playing it is a novelty and something I think most fans can appreaciate, sometimes I wish Konami would remake it with Master Duel, since I don't see them ever adding a campaign similar to Forbidden Memories or Sacred Cards, something like the traditional tier system would probably be simple to add and it'd be a fun thing for fans. I wish I could play Master Duel, but I'm having issues with installing it, probably because I'm using GNU/Linux on an old laptop, but I'll try again at some point. Revisiting the anime sounds fun! I'd go for it, even I have been watching some episodes from back then, though I haven't decided to rewatch everything just yet, I'm mostly reading the manga really, since I find it to be quicker, though of course I'm missing out on things like the stellar OST and the excelent voice acting, both Japanese and English, still, I think both the anime and manga are good options.

I don't know if it counts as one of the World Championship titles or if it's just a pre cursor, but I've started playing Eternal Duelist Sould a while back, since its structure reminded me of Duel Monsters 1 and Dark Duel Stories with the tier system, it's been fun, though I don't play it often. I'm also interested in trying out 7 Trials of Glory eventually since the overworld reminds me of how Sacred Cards did things, almost Pokémon like. I've never considered the Tag Force titles before, but I'll take a look at them if I manage to finish my backlog of GBA ones any time soon, either way thank you for the recommendations! Seriously, it's impressive how many Yu-Gi-Oh! titles Konami released for portable systems during the 2000's, they made sure to milk it as much as possible it seems, still I do plan on playing more of them in the future, because this is from a time when Konami was still excelent for the most part.

I believe we should keep this thread going strong today, in honor of Kazuki Takahashi, who created something so special to so many people, and sadly left us way too soon. Still, he lives on through his work, who'll carry his legacy for decades, and through the people whose lives were made more fun thanks to a man who simply loved all sorts of games people can play together. Well then, my fellow /vr/os, what's your all time favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! video game adaptation? Why do you prefer it over any of the others you might've played before? I'm personally a Forbidden Memories fan myself, because it's the one I grew up with, and it gave me everything I was looking for, beautiful aesthetics, and atmospheric OST, and immersive story, all crucial elements of an RPG, of course the rules were simplified, but for a kid like me that felt quite ideal at the time, and I've only grown more fond of it over time. I'll never forget my first few encounters with the high mages, I genuinely felt intimidated and worried, they had a strong presence and its stuck with me after all of these years.

Well, if you're talking about Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (GB) specifically, and not any other retro Yu-Gi-Oh! videogame, or the real cardgame, then I'd say the best way to build your deck is by winning against Joey/Jonouchi 100 times, this way you'll probably end up with many copies of Sogen and Legendary Sword, alongside some of the best Warriors as bonuses for every 10 wins, with Red-Eyes B. Dragon being the last one, with 2400ATK, and considering the rules didn't have tributes yet, it's one of the best cards you can get.

The fact that this doesn't have levels or tributes means that, at least in theory, the best deck would be one with as many high ATK cards as possible, though early on that's not easy to do, because most of your cards are weak, and opponents' drops aren't strong either, with the main exception being the bonuses for every 10 wins you get, mostly the ones for 50 wins onwards. Fusions are helpful in many retro Yu-Gi-Oh! videogames, but here they're rare to come by, so I'd say the best strategy is Field Spells and Equips, so choose a theme, preferably one that can be powered up by either Yami, Umi, Sogen, Forest or Mountain, and stick to it, including cards that fit that theme, alongside the appropriate Equips.

I believe Warriors are best simply because grinding against Joey/Jonouchi is simple enough, and he gives many 1700ATK and 1800ATK cards near the end of the 100 victories requirement, but you can choose any duelist to do this with, like Mai so you can build a deck around Mountain, or Mako/Kajiki so you can build an Umi deck, etc. It's all up to you and your preference. Also, if you have the patience I'd go for 100 wins against either Yugi or Kaiba, because Yugi gives you Curse of Dragon at 90 wins and Gaia The Fierce Knight at 100, though with Kaiba you get many powerful Warriors, including Judge Man, and you also get Blue-Eyes White Dragon as the bonus for 100 wins, which is the best card in the game.

I recall reading about this in the previous YGO thread, but forgot to check on it after that, so thanks for making this thread, OP! Otherwise I'd probably never play this in english, or maybe only in a few years after randomly remembering it. So far it really is caveman's YGO, it's simpler than Forbidden Memories, and that's saying something, but it does have charm, I like it, and I love having a campaign based exclusively on Duelist Kingdom, I've always wanted an RPG based on this arc, similar to how Battle City had The Sacred Cards on the GBA, though that's much more of an RPG than this, it's still something.

Well, it depends on what you're looking for, if you want something that recreates the rules of the OCG/TCG well, then some of the most modern titles are the way to go, like Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution, it has a campaign that follows the story of the anime aswell, so if you love the original anime then that could be a very fun experience to play through. If you don't care much about story then online simulators made by fans can do the trick, things like EDOPRO and Dueling Book, though I'd consider EDOPRO more begginer friendly because it's automatic, while Dueling Book is manual. If you're looking for more of an RPG then some of the PSP, DS and Gameboy games are good for that, since they have you play as your own character, interacting with the ones from the animes. If you want something different, with alternative rules and new ideas, I'd suggest something like Duelists of the Roses, especially if you enjoy games like chess. Now, if you're looking for something like Duelist Kingdom rules, then Forbidden Memories is probably the closest to that, it also has a nice RPG feel to it, though I wouldn't call it begginer friendly at all.
