While I don't personally use them, I can let all the filter effects slide except the bowing.
If your picture bowed or was otherwise warped, your set was miscalibrated. I don't think I ever even saw anyone's set like that in person and I lived through that era.
If it didn't come correct from the factory, it took all of 2 seconds to fiddle with the nobs or and OSD if you're fancy.
It reminds me of how kids today think VHS tapes all looked like they had decades of ware on them, when they were new.
You can say that games were designed for pixel bleeding, etc. but I'm pretty sure nobody ever intended for their games to be played on a bowed screen on purpose.
