Heroes literally has no movement issues Sonic wise in a game about momentum. The problems with that game gameplay wise to most people are completely surface level, and not actually elements of "bad gameplay" but flawed execution in terms of representation.

Second, the gameplay's lack of traditional features from the classic era games creates a dissonance of muscle memory being tangled with because you want to play it like the classics, but you can't because it changed the gameplay up, leaving old fans blueballed of its gamefeel. But outside of this, the game still has every flow into everything just fine, EXCEPT for one oversight, which is when Tails or any flight character loses flight power, which causes them to stop all momentum and fall without any horizontal control to speak of, and when you're about to run off a ledge, the game jerks you to a complete stop, just to end up falling off anyway because exiting out that animation is impossible as it locks your controls, making you promptly fall off the stage regardless. That and the fucking railswitching.

But just from the core gameplay itself that is Sonic's, it's the smoothest the series had ever been up to Unleashed/Gens since you actually get more control moving sideway than you do during boosting gameplay. The problem that makes Heroes this "black sheep" of the series is because it panders to no one properly. Adventurefags aside the game wants to be classic Sonic, but lacks any of the nuanced gameplay classic Sonic had to make the gamefeel of heroes worth playing though. It's like the Kirby of Sonic games. Too streamlined. Too straightforward. Too safe. Had it been S3K in all but in 3D, it would have been better.
