So awhile back I sold my entire retro collection (NES era to N64 era). Still collect, but I only collect from ps1, dreamcast and up. Is retro still worth collecting at this point where it's so old, especially NES and before? I have an HTPC I use as sort of an emu box, should I just keep working at that or start collecting again?

Hello /vr/ I have an issue. Just finished fixing what known problems I had with my NES. I fixed the bottom pins so all would touch and cleaned the cartridge but I'm still getting a pink screen. What do you recommend? It's happening with multiple games and I have the right power adapter

Here is an original thread that probably has never happened on here before.

I have never played an NES game. What are your favorites?

Sup /vr/, I haven't had an NES since I'd say 2002. It was my half-brother's, who took it when he moved out. All I have now is a SNES with a couple of games. I'd like to start collecting, and was considering buying an NES. Is it worth $45 for a used "finnicky" NES? (I mean, these things have always been finnicky) Do clone consoles read the games more often or are they shitty/not worth it?

If it matters, I'm playing these games on a miserable 9 inch Toshiba MV9KD1.

I'm getting an NES soon but the problem is that it doesn't work. Are there different test I can do to find out the problem? Or is it better to just have my local repair place do it (going to cost me $20 to get it fixed).

I've recently downloaded a NES and Gameboy emulator on my R4 card for DS. Suprisingly the games fine and they look pretty good. What are the must play NES and GB(C) games?

Hey /vr/
My brother gave me a few old consoles and games that come with them a few weeks ago (Nes, Genesis, and a 7800) but I'm having trouble getting the NES to work. The light will flash on and off and only plays if the game is seated perfectly
From the research I've done online I've figured out that either the pins are bent or just dirty so we took it apart. Once we opened it up we saw that the screws holding the pins to the pcb are all stripped to shit.

Do you guys have any advice on how I could get 3 stripped screws out without breaking the motherboard?

Hello, my /vr/ friends. I'm a new NES owner, I've only just bought mine about a few weeks ago, and I'm having a blast with it. So far I have Super Mario Bros. 1/3, The Legend of Zelda, Wizards and Warriors, Ghost 'N Goblins, Metroid, and Final Fantasy, and I'm having a blast. I haven't had this much fun on a console in a long time. Anyway, though, I've run into a problem with my NES: Upon loading carts and trying to start any game, it's just a purple screen. Nothing more, nothing less. I followed advice online to open the NES, raise the connectors in the connector, and retry. That worked for a while, but now it's failing again, and not even that worked this time. Is this a common problem? What remedies can I try? What should I do to repair this?

I apologize for my ignorance, I'm very new to owning an NES.

Hey /vr/, I was thinking of getting one of these because I like having a physical collection for old Nintendo games.

I am worried though about the condition of both the console and games due to the age. Can you guys give me any advice on how to keep everything running and/or repairs?

Sup /vr/, I'm getting a NES in a few days, and I'm not extremely familiar with the library.

What are some must have NES games that I should pick up? I'm going to be getting Super Mario Bros., Castlevania, and The Legend of Zelda, so anything similar to that would be cool.

Tell me /vr/, what are you using for emulating NES/Famicom titles?

http://emulation-general.wikia.com/wiki/Nintendo_Entertainment_System
I already checked it on the sticky and it said that FCEUX is not recommended and also not updated. Why it's not recommended? Also updates are pretty much regular: http://www.fceux.com/web/version.html

How much should I care about http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/NESAccuracyTests.html, what gives for default player?

I am 27 and got NES when I was 3. Since then I have enjoyed most Nintendo consoles but ended up hopping the band wagon to sony after the N64 had horribly expensive carts.

I remember seeing Shadows of the Empire for 80 bucks once.

Nowadays I focus mainly on NES and PC games and am a major fan of RPGs from the early 90s on DOS.

Hey /vr/, I need some help. My fathers new girlfriend has a Nes, with a bunch of games and shit. She offered to sell it, and cut me a part of the profits, or she said she would sell it to me. Its a damn fine collection in my opinion, so I'd like to price check it.

Obviously, that's the problem. I dont want to use Ebay but I dont know a better site to use. I'll throw up a list so you guys can see what she has. And I'm not going to con her out of anything, so I'm hoping for fair prices. Thanks in advance.

Games:
>burgertime
>qbert
>black manta
>strider
>pacman
>shadowgate
>paperboy
>bayou billy
>thundercade
>micky mousecapade
>some sesame street game
>super c
>dr mario
>bump n jump
>metroid
>super pitfall
>deadly towers
>mario bros 2, 3, and 1 + duck hunt/track and field
>dragon warrior
>metal gear
>willow
>donkey kong classics
>DK3
>tetris
>star tropics
>flintstones
>jetsons (already informed her that this game seems valuable)
>fester quest
>dino and ricky

Plus these accessories:
>power pad
>play advantage
>zapper
>2 controllers
>set of nintendo licenced game covers
>controller covers that add a joystick over the d-pad
>manuals for most games

I dont even know where to start to be honest. Any help is appreciated.

Pic is just a pic of a nes i guess. I can provide pics of some of the games.

My NES broke a while ago. When I press the power button the start screen flashes on and off and it makes a continuous beeping noise.
I brought it to the only retro game shop in my city and they asked 20 Euros to tell me that they couldn't fix it.
They said that the pin connector is broken, how much do these things cost and is it hard to install it myself?

I'm not that much of a tech nut but I've noticed that NTSC games run faster than PAL games. I assume this has to do with the refresh rate or the processors?

In either case regardless of the technical reason was there a political reason behind making PAL games run at different speeds than NTSC?

I live in New Zealand, and want to buy an NES or SNES. What should I do?
Trademe, our Ebay equivalent, has one clone console and one massive NES package that's currently at 150 bucks. Ebay sucks of course, but the shipping costs are extra bad here. Amazon almost never ships to NZ and when it does, the costs are usually upward of 80 bucks. I went to the local thrift shop today but they didn't have anything older than a PS2. Yard sales are rare around here.
Any ideas?
