Chocolate is interesting, it has the level with the unique time/coin-based path ways.
Anyway probably my favorite level is still Donut Plains 1. It feels like a big playground, it's filled with things on the ground and in the sky, it has pic related, it has the first secret exit, the first time you encounter the cape. It has it all.

As I said earlier I played SMB3 before World, and was my very first Mario adventure ever, so I do have a lot of nostalgia for 3, and having replayed it again (NES version, which I didn't play since I was a kid) this year, I can reaffirm it is a masterpiece of a platformer game. It's solid, no flaws really, not without getting into pointless subjective details.

However, >>2026586 makes a good point about the physics, if Mario 3 had World's physics, the levels would be a easier. I think they made a huge improvement from SMB1 to 3, but I think they finally nailed it with World.

Sadly, no later Mario games surpassed the delicacy and perfectionism that is World's physics. Not counting Yoshi's Island.
Everytime I have to test a controller, or a TV's input latency or whatever thing related to testing something with a video game, I go to Super Mario World. I know and am used to this game's controls so much, and they're so responsive, that I actually use it as a sort of testing tool at this point.
