I’m sure studios who made jrpgs certainly noticed and appreciated it, I’d imagine space limitation with carts were a big thing to have to work with, and the music and sfx guys probably liked it because now you could have better music and sounds.

Lunar had a ton of promotional art for ads in magazines and such. Even the cover of the Mega CD version uses the older art style giving Luna purple hair. Middle of the road medium budget Jrpg are not common anymore. Its either huge bankruptcy AAA skyrim clones like FF15 or super cheep shitty dungeon crawlers with naked lolis on the vita.
