I'm a little out of the loop. I remember hearing about two different versions/expansions/add-ons for Ocarina of Time. They were called Ura Zelda and Zelda Gaiden. As I understand it, one was an expanded 64DD version of OoT, and one was what became Majora's Mask.
For a while, the lore within the fanbase was that the 64DD expansion (Gaiden, I believe?) was eventually released as Master Quest. However, some build dates suggested that that was not the case, and Master Quest was created specifically for the Gamecube rerelease. Here's where my memory gets foggy, and google doesn't seem to pull up anything reliable about Gaiden or Ura Zelda beyond fandom websites without any sources. Is there something I'm missing? I often see the names being used interchangeably, but which is which, and what might have become of the fabled 64DD version?

It's always been a thing. When I was a kid I'd obsess over those tiny shitty screenshots of games in development in Nintendo Power and when it came out and something didn't match like the HUD or whatnot I'd go "wait what happened to X" and obsess over it.
The modern version of this isn't new either, there was always a weird, uncanny valley type aura to early 3D games like Super Mario 64 (not saying HELP ME NIGGERMAN SO LIMINAL but you get the picture) that you can definitely feel especially as a kid where your mind can fill in the blanks between the low poly models.
It's also an underlying yearning for more content within games that have been explored and dissected so incredibly meticulously that in order to find more there is to be interesting about it you have to quite literally make it up or go really digging into its development history until something new comes up.

also it's soul

What do people see in this that isn’t just Ocarina of Time, but unfinished? Why are people so desperate to play a rough demo over the finished game?

The fire effect in the left screen still exists in the debug Master Quest ROM. Apparently, using it does take memory, most likely the reason why it got replaced by the looping flicker of the final game.

Don't mind me, I always wanted to fuck Nayru.

>>6393931 is right, I think the grainy quality of this ancient 1996 screenshot might be also playng tricks on you. These old screenshots from VERY early days of the Internet as we knew it, when it was still Web 1.0 added an extra coat of pixelization. It was hard times, man.

Also, pic related, I was wrong, this game isn't object_human, her name is object_GirlA but she appears everywhere after Link leaves a building....

This, I believe stuff like Earthbound 64, Zelda 64 or Dinosaur Planet would be the true jackpot.
