Trying to make the old disc installs run on something like Windows 7 is a chore, the game will crash rather often, even with patches and compatibility modes (in my experience, anyway).

Instead, buy or pirate the GOG package, which comes with the expansion and runs flawlessly on modern machines. I was relieved to find it because I kind of like the game, but I put off playing it because it'd just not work properly.

It doesn't have the charm and aesthetic of classic Simcity 2000. Also I prefer the simplicity of the grids.
